Once you book your senior photography session, the most common question I get is “what should I wear?”
I have photographed hundreds of senior sessions and know how to prepare for a senior photography session to get the best results.
With a little simple inspiration, I can help you find the right outfit that fits your personal style and lets you show up to your session feeling confident.
All of my senior photography clients receive complimentary styling advice.
You can lay outfits out on your bed or text me from the mall as you are trying stuff on. I’ve got you covered and make deciding what to wear fast and easy.
The most popular outfit ideas for a senior photography session are a simple, casual outfit (think jeans and a simple cropped or flowy top that feels natural and authentic) and a maxi or more casual dress.
In this post, I’ll break down what to consider when choosing outfits for a senior photography session.
For senior girls, I recommend that you first start with a casual everyday look that feels authentically you. As one of the top-rated senior photographers in Conifer, Evergreen, Littleton and Denver, I have a lot of tips and tricks to make picking what to wear easy and fun.
I usually recommend starting with jeans and a cute top. This classic and timeless option is probably where you feel most comfortable and like yourself.
Grab your favorite pair of jeans, corduroys or cutoff shorts and a neutral top and show up feeling like yourself. The type of jeans really doesn’t matter: rips, holes, high rise, jean shorts or baggy jeans all photograph beautifully.
My only tip with jeans is to avoid logos and embroidery.
A white or neutral tee or tank pairs perfectly. Try to avoid bright colors that might detract from the mountains, busy prints or logos.
Cropped shirts and baby tees look amazing in photos as long as they aren’t sheer. Throw on a letterman jacket if you have one to showcase sports and activities and you have the perfect casual outfit for your senior photography session.
Outfits impact posing and pants or shorts give us the option to sit and move easily.

A dress allows us to incorporate movement, softness and whimsy into your senior photo session. It also allows those gorgeous, blurry and natural long exposure photos that a lot of my senior photography clients love.
Maxi dresses are perfect for this vibe and let you pose naturally during your senior photography session. A shorter sundress is also a classic choice that feels feminine but effortless and still allows a lot of natural movement.
A maxi dress or sundress looks cute but not too dressed up. Soft florals, gentle prints and classic white are all good options.
Dresses photograph well for an outdoor photo session in the mountains or Denver foothills. Most of my senior photography clients bring two outfits to their session.
I recommend starting in the outfit that you love the most, for most senior girls this is the simpler jeans and a cropped top combination.
A professional senior photography session typically costs between $350 and $475 with HoneyLensPhoto. Both of these sessions are in one location.
The longer session gives us enough time for a quick outfit change. All of our senior photography sessions include digital files at no additional cost.

The last thing to consider when preparing for your senior session is shoes.
My main piece of advice is to avoid athletic sneakers with logos. Cowboy boots, birks, docs, sambas or stacked heels keep outfits simple and relaxed while keeping your overall vibe put together.
Most of my senior clients choose mountain locations for their session.
Some of my favorite locations in Evergreen, Pine, Conifer and Littleton are Staunton State Park, Meyer Ranch, Flying J, and South Valley Ranch. Remember that outdoor locations can be muddy and often have uneven ground so avoid heels or shoes that you can’t walk comfortably in.

The perfect outfit for your senior photography session makes you feel confident and reflects your authentic personality and style. Wearing something that makes you happy and that you can move comfortably in is always the best outfit choice for senior photos.
I would love to chat with you about senior photos. Reach out on my form and I will text you back to book a session. I have you covered whether it’s deciding what to wear or what location in the mountains feels like you. I can’t wait to meet you!
